About breast pumps, these are the key points you must know

1219_

1.Why can't the breast pump pump milk?

There are several aspects:

  • The mother did not stimulate the milk ejection reflex. In fact, the principle of sucking milk with a breast pump is the same as the principle of sucking milk for a baby. It is to stimulate the milk formation to produce milk.

  • But if the mother sucks for a few minutes and finds that she still can't pump the milk, she has to stop again, switch to the massage mode again, or use other methods to stimulate the milk formation.

  • The cup size of the breast pump is not suitable.

Choose a suitable horn cover: There is a 1-2mm gap between the nipple and the cup wall, a small part of the areola is sucked into the cup, and most of the areola is outside.

  • The mother and the breast pump are in the running-in period. Even after the baby is born, there will be a period of cooperation for the first few days, and the same is true for using a breast pump. It may take a few days for the mother and the breast pump to find an optimal state of breastfeeding.

2.How do I clean and sanitize my breast pump?

  • In fact, the most important thing about the breast pump is to clean it, not to sterilize it.

After pumping each time, the container for storing milk and the part of the breast pump that collects milk must be completely separated and soaked or rinsed with hot water and detergent. If hot water and detergent are not available, it is recommended to use boiling water for cleaning. Also dishwasher safe.

  • Be sure to air dry after washing and store in dry conditions.

Chemical sanitizers are not recommended as they are easily deactivated, do not sanitize well, and may expose your baby to risks from inadequately rinsed containers and chemical sanitizers.

  • The breast pump does not need to be sterilized, but if the mother really wants to sterilize, it is enough to sterilize it once a day, and put it in a sterilized drying pot to sterilize and dry it once.

3. Does using a breast pump often damage the breasts?

  • A properly fitted breast pump will not harm the breast.

  • Choosing a suitable horn cover, comfortable negative pressure, and a reasonable breastfeeding time, the correct breastfeeding method will not damage the breast glands, but the breast pump’s breastfeeding effect is not as good as that of the baby’s breastfeeding, and it may cause Milk stasis, milk reduction and other problems, so let your baby eat as much as possible!
